Plus costs roughly eight times more than Advanced. Sometimes that is a bargain and sometimes it is an expensive badge. Here is the maths, the capabilities that actually justify it, and a quick test for your store.
Most merchants ask the wrong question. It is not "are we big enough for Plus?" but "which Plus-only capability is blocked, and what does that cost us every month?" Start there and the decision gets much simpler.
Plus lowers the third-party gateway fee from 0.6% to 0.2%. On a $2,001 monthly price gap, that means roughly $500K of monthly sales on an outside processor before fees alone pay for the upgrade, or about $800K if you use Shopify Payments. That ignores the 1-year price, any variable platform fee for very large stores, and the cost of apps and a build.
If fee savings are your only reason to upgrade, you are probably early. If a blocked capability is costing you revenue, you may be late.
Budget the real cost. One 2026 guide puts total cost at two to four times the platform fee once implementation and apps are included. Price the whole project, not just the plan.
We model fees, apps and the revenue each blocked capability unlocks, then build the migration so nothing breaks on day one. Often the answer is "wait six months", and we will say so.
